Members Helping Members

Since 1993, the heart of West Toronto has benefited from the presence of the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC).  Providing supports to the underserved, their goal is to uplift and empower the most vulnerable members of the community, including Toronto’s 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.

What started out small, as a modest endeavour to help their neighbours and community members, has grown into a comprehensive multi-service agency addressing the multifaceted needs of those facing poverty, homelessness, experiencing health challenges, and other barriers, by offering a wide range of free programs and services for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

"We have a lot of unique programming which is why Alterna has been a great partner because they have friendly and supportive staff who tailor services to meet our needs."
Samantha Vite, Director, Shelter/Housing Operations

In 2017, CONC established the George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre (GCNC). This hub is home to the LOFT Kitchen Café, which provides in-house catering services while developing the employability of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. This program has helped numerous youth build their dreams, while drop-in sessions and inclusive events help people feel connected and provide a sense of belonging.

Along with the GCNC, CONC has carved out a safe space where 2SLGBTQIA+ can thrive by offering a full suite of programs and services that can help individuals whether they are seeking employment training, one-to-one support, or just need a place to hang out and be themselves.

CONC is an organization that has demonstrated they are an ally and champion for diversity, inclusion, and resilience. Through family-friendly events and demonstrations of solidarity, it celebrates not just this month but a lifetime commitment to honouring the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.

The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre stands not just as a physical entity but as a testament to the enduring power of compassion, resilience, and community. With each step forward, it reaffirms its commitment to empowering individuals, breaking barriers, and fostering inclusivity, not just in West Toronto but in the hearts and minds of all who call it home.
