Community & Financial Inclusion Granting Programs
Strengthens the community sector by providing grant funding opportunities for registered charities, incorporated nonprofits, co-operatives without share capital, and unincorporated associations that positively impact communities.

Outstanding Corporate Achievement Award
Alterna was thrilled to receive Ontario Credit Union Foundation’s 2024 Outstanding Corporate Achievement Award, granted based on our affordable housing commitment through our Community Financial Resiliency Program. This award is given annually to a credit union (or company within the co-operative financial system) to recognize their community contributions.
Stronger Together Award
In 2023, Alterna Savings was honoured with the Canadian CED Network (CCEDNet)’s Stronger Together Award for our exceptional contributions to Community Economic Development and outstanding leadership. We were the first financial institution to receive this recognition in Canada.

Susan Henry has over 25 years’ experience working with underserved, underrepresented individuals and communities. Her passion and dedication focus on the foundation of “Financial Inclusion for all”. Susan was instrumental in leading the launch of Alterna Savings’ award-winning Community Microfinance Program and the Community Loan Funds Partnership Programs. Since its inception in 2000, over $9.9 million in loans have been disbursed, directly improving the economic participation of underserved communities and groups such as BIPOC, new and racialized Canadians, women, and others who face barriers to financing.

Over the years, Fahima has refined her expertise in advocating for marginalized communities and delivering innovative banking solutions.
