Celebrating 25 years! Alterna's award-winning* Community Microfinance Program has empowered lives by providing access to capital and affordable financial solutions for underserved entrepreneurs and organizations. Since 2000, we've proudly invested over $10M through 1,500+ impact loans, tackling socioeconomic inequity and opening pathways to financial independence for individuals often excluded from traditional banking. Here's to a quarter-century of breaking barriers and building stronger communities!

Our Focus Segments Include:

Joint Loan Program with BDC

Black entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, and women entrepreneurs who have received up to $25,000 in funding through Alterna’s Community Microfinance Program have the opportunity to double this amount through the Joint Loan Program with BDC, for a potential total of $50,000.

Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund (BELF)

The Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund, a component of the Black Entrepreneurship Program, is a partnership between the Government of Canada, Black-led business organizations, and several financial institutions.

MicroSavings Program

Designed to build resilience, this built-in savings program will empower entrepreneurs to create financial reserves for their small businesses and work towards other long-term goals.

Micro Business Banking Package

Our Micro Business Banking Package was created as part of our Community Microfinance Program to provide entrepreneurs access to holistic financial advice and customized product offerings.
